level 1

cost: $145 each child including all glass costs (adult stays during the workshop – adult is free)
prerequisite:  A sense of fun and adventure and you are between 8 and 18 years old.
you get:  to make a framed art piece
duration: 2 hours

By popular request I’ve created this brand new workshop. So, you can now come along with your grandchildren, your nieces and nephews and they each make a framed piece of art in glass.  Families enjoying a new experience together, that’s our aim.

This two hour workshop is a fun and creative experience for children from 8-18 years.

Please note: all children need to be accompanied by a responsible adult throughout the workshop. You’ll need to stay during the entire workshop and help your children with their creations: their safety is your responsibility, and your presence will enhance their experience.

This is a hands-on activity where kids create a piece of glass art.   Each child can choose their own designs that they can possibly draw at home (13cms x 13cms) or they can choose from one of my designs they can see here.

Make wonderful unique memories!  Everyone loves the two hours they spend in the studio.  Why not bring the cousins and have a fabulous catch-up?  Everyone is a beginner in this class – it’s a new Level One workshop.

Each attendee will make a piece of glass art that measures 13 x 13cm.  After the workshop I will fire their works in my kiln and frame it in a box frame like you can see in the images here.

During the workshop they’ll learn:

  • what glass is
  • basic and correct skills required to use glass as an artistic medium
  • the fundamentals of glass cutting
  • about art glass and how it performs in the kiln.
  • each child will be introduced to the endless potential of glass fusing and slumping.

What each child gets:

  • everything needed to make their own 13 x 13cms art work
  • all materials used, including their choice from at least two dozen different colours of glass
  • use of our studio tools
  • kiln firing
  • creating precious new memories with family members
  • No previous experience required
  • each adult comes for free

WHAT TO WEAR?

Everyone must wear clothes that include some kind of sleeve (not a singlet top) and closed toe shoes.  (No thongs, no sandals that expose their toes.)   Everyone needs to be able to stand securely on both feet and climb one flight of stairs to the workshop. On hot days the studio is air-conditioned.

DO YOU BRING ANYTHING?

Each participant needs to bring a water bottle, and a simple face mask too.

WHEN DO YOU GET YOUR ART WORK BACK?

Once the class is over and the clean up is done, all you need to do is wait for an email from me showing the progress of their mini masterpiece and I’ll let you know when it is ready to be picked up, usually between 10 – 14 days after your workshop. I do all the firing and assembling for you.

Your artworks will be kept here at my Richmond studio for 3 months after the workshop: it’ll be donated to charity after that time.  During the workshop I’ll take photographs of you for my website and for my social media, but if you don’t want this to happen just let me know.

LOCATION

My studio is a part of the Swan Street Artist Studio complex. We are on Level 1 of 550 Swan Street Richmond. Its a contemporary art space run by Professional Artists, you’ll love having your workshop in this unique first floor warehouse.

Car parks are surprisingly easy to find around our studios. We are on the intersection of Swan Street, and Bendigo Street, Richmond.

You can often park right outside – fortunately we are at the quiet end of Swan Street.  But remember the parking here is 2 hours, and Clearways apply, so we’ll set our alarms and make sure we all move our cars in good time.

According to Google, there’s a 6-minute walk from Burnley Railway Station to 550 Swan Street (its 450 metres away).  Tram 70 stops a few metres from our front door.

COVID NOTICE

We adhere to the Covid19 rules of the day. If you or your family members have been unwell call me and we’ll simply reschedule your class.  Of course, there’s zero cost for rescheduling.

PRIVATE WORKSHOPS

If you don’t see a time and date that suits you here please email me and we will add a new date that suits you.   I am always happy to add other dates or create a private workshop for you and your friends, if that suits you better.   The jewellery you see here was all made in a private workshop.

Just let me know and we’ll book times for you and your family.  There is space here for a larger group of people to come to this workshop.   Just let me know.

Please remember that you can come to this workshop as often as you like.  Come back and make a different design each time.  Its fun, creative and non stressful here in the studio!

The fabulous “Hedgehog” you can see in the images above was created in a $199 workshop that was run especially for this gorgeous girl as part of her Duke Of Edinburgh Award requirements.  Anyone can create a plate in my studio sometime, however it will cost $199 each and it is a 3 hour workshop and not a two hour event as described earlier.

I look forward to seeing you soon and introducing this amazing craft/art to you.

You’ll need to stay during the entire workshop and help your children with their creations: their safety is your responsibility, and your presence will enhance their experience. The price is per child, each adult is free of charge.

See you soon,
