level 1

cost: $110 each
prerequisite:  A sense of fun and adventure!
you get:  to make a framed art piece
duration: 90 minutes

By popular request I’ve created this brand new workshop. So, grandmothers can now come along with your grandchildren and they each make a framed piece of art in glass.  This 90 minute workshop is a fun and creative experience for children from 8 years+ all need to be accompanied by an adult. This is a hands-on activity where kids create a piece of glass art.   Your grandchildren can choose their own designs or from one of my designs already here in the studio.  You’ll need to stay and make memories with your grandchildren.  Everyone loves the 90 minutes they spend in the studio.  Bring the cousins and have a fabulous catchup.  Everyone is a beginner in this class – Level One.

They make a piece of glass art that measures 18x18cm in the colours of their choosing.  After the workshop I will fire their works in my kiln and frame it in a box frame like you can see in the images here.

During the workshop they’ll learn:

  • the basic and correct skills required to use glass as an artistic medium
  • the fundamentals of glass cutting
  • about art glass and how it performs in the kiln.
  • each child will be introduced to the endless potential of glass fusing and slumping.

What each child gets:

  • everything needed to make their own 18x18cms art work
  • all materials used, including their choice from at least two dozen different colours of glass
  • use of our studio tools
  • kiln firing
  • to create new memories with family members

No previous experience required for this class.

WHAT TO WEAR?

Please make sure everyone wears clothes that include some kind of sleeve (not a singlet top) and closed toe shoes.  (No thongs, no sandals that expose their toes.)   Everyone needs to be able to stand securely on both feet and climb one flight of stairs to the workshop.

DO I BRING ANYTHING:

I think they need to bring a water bottle each and a face mask too.

WHEN DO I GET MY ART WORK BACK?

Once the class is over and the clean up is done, all you need to do is wait for an email from me showing the progress of their mini masterpiece and I’ll let you know when it is ready to be picked up, usually between 10 – 14 days after your workshop.

Your masterpiece will be kept here at my Richmond studio for 3 months after the workshop, it’ll be donated to charity after that time.  During the workshop I’ll take photographs of you for my website and for my social media, if you don’t want this to happen just let me know.

LOCATION;

My studio is a part of the Swan Street Artist Studio complex. We are on Level 1 of 550 Swan Street Richmond. Its a contemporary art space run by Professional Artists, you’ll love having your workshop in this unique first floor warehouse.

Car parks are surprisingly easy to find around our studios. We are on the intersection of Swan Street, and Bendigo Street, Richmond.

You can often park right outside – fortunately we are at the quiet end of Swan Street.  But remember the parking here is 2 hours so we’ll set our alarms and make sure we all move our cars around the 2 hour point.  Remember there are Clearways in Swan Street, Richmond.

According to Google, there’s a 6-minute walk from Burnley Railway Station to 550 Swan Street (its 450 metres away).  Tram 70 stops a few metres from our front door.

COVID NOTICE;

We adhere to the Covid19 rules of the day. If you or your family members have been unwell call me and we’ll reschedule your class.  Of course, there’s zero cost for rescheduling.

PRIVATE WORKSHOPS

If you don’t see a time and date that suits you here please email me and we will add a new date that suits you.   I am always happy to add other dates or create a private workshop for you and your friends, if that suits you better.   There is space here for a larger group of people to come to this workshop.   Just let me know.

Please remember that you can come to this workshop as often as you like.  Come back and make a different design each time.  Its fun, creative and non stressful here in the studio!

I look forward to seeing you soon and introducing this amazing craft/art to you.

You’ll love this workshop!

See you soon,

jenie
